Latino Entertainers to Aid Census Drive

Share

A blitz of local Latino musicians and a troupe of dancers will perform in Pacoima today as part of a daylong event to remind residents to fill out and mail their U.S. Census forms.

Taking to the outdoor stage on Van Nuys Boulevard between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Haddon Avenue will be an all-female group, Mariachi Mujer 2000, Tierra, a Chicano band singing 1970s hits, and the Pacoima All Stars musical group, among others.

Organizers hope the entertainers will draw nearly 5,000 residents, who will be able to get help in completing and returning their forms for this year’s count of the national population, said Felipe Fuentes, an aide to Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla.

U.S. Census workers and volunteers will answer questions about the forms in English and Spanish.

Forms mailed to residents last month should be returned by today, though late filings would be accepted, officials said.
