Buddhists to Honor Hoa Hao Founder

Share

Hoa Hao Buddhists will hold a commemoration Sunday to mark the capture of prophet Huynh Phu So by communists 53 years ago.

Huynh founded the Hoa Hao movement, which adheres to basic Buddhist beliefs in nonviolence, moderation and vegetarianism, in 1939. There are more than 2 million Hoa Hao Buddhists in the world, most in Vietnam, and an estimated 1,500 adherents in Orange County.

The local service in honor of Huynh will begin at 10 a.m. in the Southwest Senior Center at 2201 W. McFadden Ave., Santa Ana.
