L.A.’s Cardinal Rule: We Don’t Really Want Your Football Team
Question: What exactly does a pro football team bring to Los Angeles? Don’t get me wrong, I was a Raider season-ticket holder and am still a big NFL fan. However, I just don’t get why the people of L.A. are supposed to be on their knees begging for the opportunity.
Moreover, why do these other cities mortgage their futures with all of this public money so a billionaire owner can make it work? Only, of course, to have that same owner hold a gun to the city’s head when the lease is up or a loophole presents itself--whichever comes first.

If L.A. is going to get an NFL team, it might as well be the Cardinals. They’re expansion-team caliber and they have no history to speak of. And if they eventually go on to greatness, no other city can claim we took away what they started. We could say the same about the Saints, but they have ugly uniforms.

I believe there are some kinds of “cruelty to sports fans” laws that would prevent one city from having both the Clippers and the NFL’s Cardinals.
