Locating Site for School

* Re “Possible School Site at Robinsons-May,” March 26, Valley letters.

I agree with Mitzi Coffin that it seems silly to run businesses off in an area where the revenue will be missed.

As an alternative to the Robinsons-May site, I am wondering if the Los Angeles Unified School District will consider the 22 acres adjacent to the North Hollywood station that [a developer] has decided not to use for economic development of the area. A high school next to an area of public transportation sounds ideal (even though the subway doesn’t go anywhere in the Valley).

Although, as Coffin says in her letter, it doesn’t impact the most affected areas, building a school in this neighborhood will certainly help ease the overcrowding cited in the March 26 letter from Laura Peters at nearby North Hollywood High School.

Furthermore, we need another 100 to 150 schools in total to ease overcrowding and accommodate new students within LAUSD, so one school is certainly not the answer. But let’s look under every stone to find as many possible locations as we can. It sounds like LAUSD needs all the help it can get.
