49ers Beat Titans in Extra Innings
Cal State Fullerton’s Amy LaRocque was thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, ending the game and giving visiting Long Beach State a 4-3 victory over the Titans in a Big West Conference softball game Sunday.
LaRocque was trying to score from first base on a double.
Jaclyn Fredrickson hit a run-scoring grounder in the top of the ninth to give Long Beach State the lead.
Fullerton (30-10, 6-3 in conference), ranked 12th in the nation, took a 3-2 lead on Yasmin Mossadeghi’s three-run home run in the fifth.
But Long Beach (27-11, 6-0) scored an unearned run in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
In the UC Irvine men’s tennis tournament championship match:
UC Irvine 5, Texas A&M; Corpus Christi 2--Chris Ma defeated Eric Von Hellens at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 7-6, for Irvine (13-5).
