Santa Ana Rolls Past Golden West in Baseball

Aaron Escobedo, Jason Welch and Tony Alcantar each hit two-run home runs in the second inning to help Santa Ana defeat Golden West, 14-11, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Golden West.

After scoring eight runs in the second, Santa Ana (24-3, 13-3) added two in the third and took a 14-5 lead after six innings.

Ty Harper and Jeremy Hanson each hit home runs for host Golden West (14-14, 5-9) in the eighth.

In other conference games:

Cypress 8, Fullerton 7--Mike Tomerelli stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning to put host Cypress ahead, 8-6.

Reliever Brandon Luna allowed only one hit and struck out two to pick up his sixth save of the season for the Chargers (22-6, 9-5).

Saddleback 12, Orange Coast 5--Reliever Robbie Ogren (5-2) pitched five innings, allowed two hits and no runs, and struck out five for host Saddleback (17-10, 7-9). Teammate Vinnie Valiente went four for five, including a double and a solo home run, and drove in three.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Orange Coast 0--The Gauchos clinched the conference title. Brock Berry won his 15th consecutive singles match, 6-1, 6-2, then teamed with David DiMartino for a 6-1, 6-2 victory in doubles for the Gauchos (15-4, 10-0).
