El Camino Real Hangs On
Greg Acheatel pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning, allowing El Camino Real High to escape with a 5-4 victory over host Cleveland in a West Valley League game Thursday.
Cleveland pulled within one run when Jimmy Scruggs opened the seventh with a triple and scored on Matt Gish’s single. The Cavaliers loaded the bases with one out, but Acheatel (5-2) got two consecutive infield popups to end the game.
Sean McElroy hit a solo home run and a run-scoring double for El Camino Real (11-2, 6-0 in league play).
Robert Moran hit a two-run home run for Cleveland (5-7, 1-5).
Chatsworth 10, Granada Hills 0--Sophomores Brian Lee and Ryan Barba each hit three-run home runs in a six-run fourth inning for host Chatsworth (11-1-1, 6-0) in a West Valley League game.
Joe Guntz (5-0) struck out eight and walked none.
Chatsworth shortstop Matt Fisher did not play after spraining a finger on his right hand in practice Wednesday.
Birmingham 8, Taft 1--Freshman Rosalio Garcia allowed seven hits, struck out 10 and walked one in recording his first complete game for Birmingham (7-6, 2-4) in a West Valley League game at Taft.
