NFL DRAFT PREVIEW
TIGHT ENDS: THE BEST
* 1. BUBBA FRANKS, Miami, 6-5, 265--The only tight end in the draft who can block, catch and run. A Pro Bowl-caliber athlete.
* Where he’s going: First round for sure. The Jets or Bears would like to have him.
2. AUSTIN WHEATLEY, Iowa, 6-3, 254--Has moved up after impressive workout in front of pro scouts. An overgrown receiver with good speed for his size. Perfect for a West Coast offense.
* Where he’s going: Probably in second or third round.
3. ANTHONY BECHT, West Virginia, 6-5, 270--Poor blocker with soft hands. Runs routes well but plows over defenders instead of evading tackles.
* Where he’s going: Projects to second or third round.
THE REST
4. Joe Dean Davenport, Arkansas, 6-6, 268
5. Dave Stachelski, Boise State, 6-3, 250
6. James Whalen, Kentucky, 6-2, 228
7. Mondriel Fulcher, Miami, 6-3, 253
8. Todd Yoder, Vanderbilt, 6-4, 234
9. Erron Kinney, Florida, 6-5, 272
10. Terrence McCaskey, Mississippi State, 6-5, 271
FULLBACKS: THE BEST
* 1. DURRELL PRICE, UCLA, 5-10, 230--The best of a very weak crop of fullbacks. Price could become a good blocking specialist.
* Where he’s going: Fourth or fifth round.
2. AARON SHEA, Michigan, 6-4, 253--A good receiver who could have more of a future as a tight end. Poor blocker.
* Where he’s going: Fifth round.
3. DEON DYER, North Carolina, 5-10, 260--Big and powerful player who should make an effective lead blocker. Don’t look for anyone on this list to make the Hall of Fame.
* Where he’s going: Fifth round.
THE REST
4. Matt Keller, Ohio State, 5-10, 235
5. Dan Kendra, Florida State, 5-11, 251
6. Terry Witherspoon, Clemson, 5-11, 253
7. Mike Green, Houston, 5-11, 253
8. Terrelle Smith, Arizona State, 6-0, 249
9. Paul Smith, Texas El Paso, 5-10, 220
10. Joey Goodspeed, Notre Dame, 6-0, 239
