Hit-Run Driver Kills Tire Changer
A 38-year-old man who stopped to fix a flat tire on the shoulder of the Hollywood Freeway in Hollywood was killed Sunday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run motorist, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
CHP officials declined to identify the victim, pending notification of kin. The man was driving a Mitsubishi Galant south on the freeway near Santa Monica Boulevard when his car got a flat tire, said CHP Officer Karen Faciane.
Just after midnight, the man pulled onto the right side of the freeway and got out to fix the left rear tire, putting him within inches of passing traffic, Faciane said. He was struck and killed at the scene.
The CHP provided no description of the car that hit the man.
