Fashion Statement Against Rape Urged

Share

Violence prevention advocates are asking Valley residents to wear jeans on Wednesday to mark Sexual Assault Awareness month.

The Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women is encouraging Angelenos to wear jeans to work and school that day and talk about rape myths and realities.

Wearing jeans during Sexual Assault Awareness Month became an international symbol of protest against rape myths last year when an Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans, said Patricia Giggans, the commission’s executive director.
