All-Stars Set to Tip Off Saturday at OCC
Giuliana Mendiola and Travis Hanour are among the players participating in the Orange County All-Star basketball games on Saturday.
Pitting the top seniors north of the Garden Grove Freeway against the South, with Mater Dei participating for the North, the girls tip off at Orange Coast College at 5 p.m., with the boys’ game scheduled for 8 p.m.
It will be the second all-star game of the day for Hanour, the Laguna Beach guard who has signed with Arizona, and for Artist teammate Chris Manker (Oregon State) and Western’s Robert Turner (Pepperdine). They are among five county players set to participate in the fourth annual Dada All-Star Classic at the Long Beach State Pyramid.
The three will be joined by Roger Hogan of Foothill and Ryan Stacey of Santa Margarita at the Pyramid. Turner will participate in the All-American game, which matches West All-Stars against a team of U.S. All-Stars, beginning at 3 p.m., and the others will play in the Southern California All-Star game, which starts at 1 p.m.
In the Orange County game, the South boys hold a 21-13 advantage over the North.
Mendiola, a four-time county scoring leader for El Toro and The Times’ Orange County player of the year, leads a South team that holds a 15-7 edge in the series.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students under 18.
