Oxnard College Student Wins Scholarship

* Oxnard College student Nicolas Crisoto was awarded a two-year Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. The one- and two-year scholarships, which are administered annually by the Goldwater Foundation, were provided to 309 sophomores and juniors across the nation and in Puerto Rico. Crisoto, a mathematics major who will transfer to a university, will receive up to $7,500 a year to help cover the cost of tuition, fees and books, plus room and board. Scholars were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,176 mathematics, science and engineering students nominated by college and university faculty.

2 Groups Get Catholic Healthcare West Grants

* Catholic Healthcare West awarded grants to two area organizations. Conejo Valley Senior Concerns in Thousand Oaks was awarded $8,000 for Safe Return, a national registration program for memory impaired individuals. Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence in Ventura received $10,849 for its Support of Survivors program. Catholic Healthcare West is a health care system with 47 hospitals in California, Arizona and Nevada, including St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo.
