Share

A former neo-Nazi skinhead, who hopes to enlighten the public about the thoughts and motivations of skinheads, will speak at a town hall meeting Tuesday sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Hate Crime Alliance.

“Exploring the Roots of Hate” will be addressed by Tom “T.J.” Leyden, a consultant for the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles.

In addition to Leyden’s talk, there will be small group discussions, a panel of experts and two parents of shooting victims at the North Valley Jewish Community Center last August.

“This will be very hands-on and interactive, so we can roll up our sleeves and begin the hard work of stopping hate crimes,” said Andrea Adleman of the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission.

This is the second public meeting of the newly formed alliance, which is made up of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, the county Human Relations Commission, the Anti-Defamation League, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District, with support from local organizations and politicians.

Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church ballroom, 17037 Plummer Ave., Northridge. For more information or to report a hate crime, call (818) 464-3339.
