Baba’s Overtime Goal Lifts New England, 2-1

Imad Baba scored two goals, including an overtime strike, as the New England Revolution defeated D.C. United, 2-1, on Saturday night in front of 15,174 at Foxboro, Mass., for its first victory.
On the winning goal, Baba took a short pass from William Sunsing and cracked a six-yard shot off the left post, cleanly beating goalkeeper Tom Prestus.
“I just wanted to get it on goal,” Baba said. “I made a late run and yelled for it--I’m not sure he even saw me, but he laid it off beautifully. I never saw the ball go in. I just saw it hit the post.”
New England improved to 1-2-2, while D.C. United fell to 1-3.
Kansas City 2, San Jose 0--Chris Henderson and Miklos Molnar scored goals and Tony Meola saved his shutout by blocking a free kick before 7,380 at Kansas City, Mo.
Henderson scored in the 34th minute for the Wizards after taking a long cross-field pass from Preki. Earthquake goalkeeper Joe Cannon got a hand on the shot, but the ball trickled into the net.
Chicago 1, Miami 0--Hristo Stoitchkov’s goal in the 48th minute before 20,169 at Chicago ended goalkeeper Jeff Cassar’s shutout streak at a club-record 310 minutes.
Chicago goalkeeper Zach Thornton made his first start of the season after sitting out four games because of a calf injury.
Tampa Bay 4, Colorado 2--Mamadou Diallo scored two goals during a three-goal first half for the Mutiny at Tampa, Fla., in front of 9,123.
Diallo’s diving header in the 14th minute tied the score at 1-1 and ended a 233-minute scoring drought for the Mutiny.
Columbus 1, New York-New Jersey 0--Brian McBride scored in the 84th minute to lift the Crew over the MetroStars in a match that was played before 12,399 in constant rain at East Rutherford, N.J.
