Freeway Backed Up After Car Flips Over

Share

Traffic was backed up for nearly an hour on the southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway in Thousand Oaks on Friday after a driver flipped his car on the left shoulder, authorities said.

Greg Armstrong, 42, of Lake Forest, lost control of his Mazda sedan as he tried to change lanes to go around slowing traffic, said California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Bloomfield.

Armstrong’s car spun out, hit an embankment and rolled over just north of Conejo School Road, Bloomfield said. Armstrong, who was not injured, told CHP officers he had been traveling at 65 mph when the wreck happened and could not explain why he lost control of his car.

The crash temporarily closed one of the freeway’s five lanes and left a snarl of stop-and-go traffic creeping around the wreck.

Armstrong was released at the scene. He is not expected to be cited, Bloomfield said. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
