Authorities have arrested a Ventura man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a stabbing attack on another man this month.

Edward Tellez, 20, of Ventura was taken into custody Wednesday and booked into the Ventura County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $520,000 bail.

Police said stabbing victim Rudy Carlos Jimenez, 27, and two friends were riding bikes at the intersection of Partridge Drive and Telephone Road on April 10 when they were confronted by a group of men in a white minivan. During an argument, one of the van’s passengers got out and attacked Jimenez, police said.

Jimenez was stabbed in the back as he tried to flee and again after he collapsed to the ground, police said. Jimenez survived the attack and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

Police served search warrants on several homes in Ventura and Santa Paula before arresting Tellez. Authorities said Tellez and Jiminez associate with rival Ventura gang members and called the stabbing a gang-related incident.
