Woman Killed, Man Injured in Crash
A 22-year-old Arleta woman died after her car crashed into the shoulder guardrail of the San Diego Freeway, authorities said Saturday. A passenger was seriously injured in the single-car accident, which investigators suspect was alcohol-related.
Perla Magda Jimenez was northbound about 10:40 p.m. Friday when she lost control of her car near the Roscoe Boulevard exit, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The car was traveling about 90 mph in the fast lane when it made a sudden right turn and hit the guardrail, MacWillie said.
Officer Lydia Martinez Prows of the California Highway Patrol said investigators found several bottles of alcohol in the vehicle. “We believe [the driver] was under the influence of alcohol,” Prows said.
Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene, MacWillie said. Her 22-year-old boyfriend, Jorge Alcaraz, also of Arleta, was thrown about 25 feet from the car, she said.
Alcaraz, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered shoulder injuries, authorities said. He was taken to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where he was in serious condition, authorities said.
