Opera

Opera Pacific’s first summer opera and tech camp culminates in a production of John Rutter’s “The Piper of Hamelin.” The hourlong opera is adapted from Robert Browning’s poem, based on a legend that appears to be somewhat based on fact. Writings on walls of houses in Hamelin confirm that in 1284 a piper did lead about 130 children out of the town into the hills, where they were lost. Rutter’s opera, which follows the Browning poem closely, has a libretto by Jeremy James Taylor.
