A 16-year-old boy was killed and two men injured Tuesday night in South Los Angeles, police said Wednesday.

The boy, Christopher Holts, was walking with two friends in the 700 block of East 109th Street about 10:15 p.m., said Det. Sal LeBarbera of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division.

Two men with guns approached the threesome and, for no apparent reason, began firing, LeBarbera said. All three friends were shot.

Holts collapsed and died at the scene. The two men, who are about 19 and 20, were in stable condition at nearby hospitals, LaBarbera said.

The gunmen were still at large and the motive is not known, LaBarbera said.

In a separate incident Wednesday morning, a 50-year-old man was shot and killed outside a liquor store, police said.

The drive-by shooting occurred at 1:40 a.m. in front of Century Liquor at 2315 W. 54th St., said Sgt. Chris Bonilla of the Police Department’s 77th Street Division.

A motive has not been determined, Bonilla said. There was no attempt at robbery, he added.
