KOREATOWN — A 20-year-old man was shot and killed on a Koreatown street corner Wednesday night, police said.
Police believe Mauricio Ibarra was shot because of his affiliation with a local street gang, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Carlos Velez of the Rampart Division. The man was using a pay phone in the 2600 block of Pico Boulevard at 9:35 p.m. when he was shot, Velez said.
Witnesses heard several gunshots and saw a man running west on Pico Boulevard, Velez said. Ibarra was pronounced dead at County-USC Medical Center.
