Luis Gonzalez drove in five runs in his second two-homer game in four days and the Arizona Diamondbacks ended Andy Ashby’s five-game winning streak with an 8-4 victory Thursday night over the Atlanta Braves.

Gonzalez had a three-run home run in the first, an RBI double in the third and a solo homer in the fifth, all off Ashby (7-8), as the Diamondbacks took two of three from Atlanta.

Jason Conti, in his third game since being recalled from triple-A Tucson, was three for four with a two-run single in the fifth. He also threw out Brian Jordan at third base from right field for the second game in a row.

Conti threw him out Thursday when Jordan tagged from second in the second inning. On Wednesday, Jordan was caught trying to go first to third on B.J. Surhoff’s single.

Tony Womack stole four bases to tie his career-best, set with Pittsburgh in 1997, and break the Diamondbacks’ team record. He had not stolen more than one base in a game all season.

Jordan hit a three-run homer off starter Brian Anderson and pinch-hitter Wally Joyner had a solo home run into the swimming pool beyond the right-field fence off reliever Johnny Ruffin.

San Francisco 10, Pittsburgh 2--Jeff Kent drove in six runs, leading the Giants to a victory over the Pirates at San Francisco.

Kent hit a two-run homer in the first and added two-run doubles in the third and fourth, all against Pittsburgh starter Francisco Cordova. Kent walked with two runners on in the sixth and struck out in the eighth.

Kent, with 96 RBIs, passed Ken Griffey Jr. and Sammy Sosa for the NL lead. He was one shy of his career-best RBI game.

Russ Ortiz (6-10) overcame a shaky start to win. He gave up one run on five hits and struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings for the Giants, who won for the third time in four games to remain one percentage point ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.

San Diego 6, Chicago 5--Mike Darr hit a two-run double in the eighth inning to lift the Padres over the Cubs at San Diego for their season-high fifth consecutive victory.

Eric Owens hit a three-run homer for the Padres and finished three for four for his fifth consecutive multi-hit game. Over that span, he has gone 13 for 23.

Sammy Sosa doubled twice for the Cubs, who are 15-6 since the All-Star break.

Florida 4, Houston 3--Dave Berg drove in the winning run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly as the Marlins came from behind to defeat the Astros at Miami.

Braden Looper (4-1) pitched two scoreless innings. Antonio Alfonseca followed with a perfect ninth for his 32nd save in 35 chances, most in the major leagues.
