Public Offered Look at Kiddie Beach Study

Share

The public will be given an update on a study to find out why a popular children’s beach in Oxnard is chronically plagued with disease-causing pollution.

Larry Walker Associates, a Thousand Oaks environmental consultant, is studying Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park, better known as Kiddie Beach. The public meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, will outline the work completed so far and what still needs to be done.

Pollution has become so persistent that Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay recently declared Kiddie Beach the most polluted of 250 beaches between San Luis Obispo County and San Diego County.

Several agencies are working together to solve the problem, including Ventura County’s Public Works Agency and Harbor Department and the cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The consultant was paid $118,000 by the county and Oxnard.
