A 20-year-old motorist was killed early Tuesday morning when his vehicle slammed into a metal guardrail on the Foothill Freeway and flew off the roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
Edward Flores of Sylmar was eastbound about 4 a.m. at about 100 mph when the 1993 Toyota Corolla drifted off the road and hit the guardrail, CHP Officer Doug Sweeney said.
The car went airborne, flying about 165 feet over Glenoaks Boulevard before landing on its roof on a shoulder of the road near Glenoaks and Foothill boulevards, Sweeney said.
Flores was taken to Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
