Three Oregon State football players have been suspended for the first three games of the season for their roles in an off-campus fight.
Receivers Alton “Junior” Adams, James Newson and Robert Prescott will miss games against Eastern Washington, New Mexico and San Diego State and will return for the Sept. 30 game against USC.
All are charged with third-degree assault as are two others--cornerback Dennis Weathersby and linebacker Noah Happe--who were not suspended.

Linebacker Rick Crowell will have to sit out Colorado State’s season-opening game against Colorado next month as part of an NCAA decision granting him a medical hardship and another year of eligibility. . . . A battery charge was dropped against University of Miami defensive tackle Adrian Terrance Wilson, who had been accused of pushing his date down a flight of stairs. . . . West Virginia running back Cassel Smith, arrested twice for shoplifting, has been suspended for the first six games of the season.
