Former Dallas Cowboy star Michael Irvin won’t be charged with marijuana possession after his arrest at an apartment where police said they found drugs.

FBI spokeswoman Lori Bailey would not elaborate on the reasons for the decision because the investigation, which involves other people, is ongoing. Bailey left open the possibility that Irvin could face other charges stemming from the probe.

Irvin was arrested Wednesday in a north Dallas apartment, where authorities said they found less than two ounces of marijuana along with ecstasy pills.

A drug task force had a warrant for the apartment’s tenant, who was not there. Irvin and the tenant’s sister were at the apartment.

Irvin retired last month and is planning a career in broadcasting.

Fourth-string tight end Brandon Christenson recovered a fumble in the end zone with seven seconds remaining Friday night to give the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-0) a 16-13 exhibition victory over the New York Giants (0-2) at Jacksonville, Fla.

Trying to force a pass during a desperation drive, Jonathan Quinn threw an interception to Giant cornerback Fred Lewis, who was standing just inside the end zone.

Teammate Jack Golden tried to tackle him in the end zone, hoping that would down the ball for a touchback, but Golden’s hit popped the ball loose and Christenson recovered.

Jaguar running back Fred Taylor left on the second play of the game with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Coach Tom Coughlin said he could miss three to four weeks.

Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne of the Giants rushed for 66 yards on 17 carries. . . .

Stephen Davis made a solid return in his first game since knee surgery, gaining 24 yards on six carries, and Skip Hicks ran for 98 yards and a touchdown as Washington beat New England, 30-20, at Landover, Md. . . . Atlanta running back Jamal Anderson played for the first time in almost a year, catching three passes for 15 yards in the Falcons’ 31-16 victory over Cincinnati (0-2) at Atlanta. The Falcons improved to 3-0.

Told to sign or stay home, defensive end Tony Brackens agreed to a one-year offer with Jacksonville.

But there remains plenty of tough negotiating ahead for a long-term contract.

Brackens accepted the $4.25 million to which he is entitled as a defensive end with the franchise label.

However, the Jaguars gave him no guarantees that they would lift the franchise tag and no agreement to waive fines should he leave camp.

“If there’s no deal, he won’t be here for the regular season,” said Brackens’ agent, Michael George.
