NORTH HILLS — A 29-year-old man was fatally shot Friday night as he stood in front of a North Hills apartment building with other people, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
Gerardo Reyes was on the 9500 block of Orion Avenue about 9:45 p.m. when a sport utility vehicle stopped near the group and a man got out, said Sgt. John Pasquariello, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
The man, armed with a handgun, fired several shots at the people, hitting Reyes in the upper body, then got back in the light-colored SUV and fled, Pasquariello said.
Reyes was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead two hours later, authorities said.
The motive is unknown, Pasquariello said.
Anyone with information should call LAPD Devonshire Division detectives at (818) 756-8291 or the watch commander at (818) 756-8283.
