A man who was shot during a robbery attempt at the Rosa Parks Green Line station Sunday has become the first homicide victim on the county’s rail system, authorities said Monday.

The unidentified victim was shot as he defended himself during an attempted robbery, in front of other passengers on the Green Line passenger platform at Imperial Highway and Wilmington Avenue, according to sheriff’s deputies. Authorities had not released his name by late Monday.

The first reports by sheriff’s deputies and Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said the victim had been wounded at the station and was transported to King/Drew Medical Center. But Monday they said he had been pronounced dead on arrival.
