Neighborhood to Get 6 More Stop Signs

Share

City officials will add six stop signs at two intersections along Morley Street to address concerns of neighbors after an 8-year-old boy was killed by a car last month.

Even though the council stopped short Tuesday of voting to install speed humps, the residents said they are satisfied for now with the additional stop signs.

“It’s better than nothing,” said James Steele, who lives along the three-quarter-mile stretch. “Time will tell.”

The City Council agreed to revisit the matter in six months to see if the stop signs have reduced speeding, which residents have been complaining about for years.

Since the fatal accident in July and complaints from local residents, Simi Valley police have increased their presence in the area. Officers have written 13 tickets since then, nine for speeding, Lt. John Ainsworth said.
