A North Hollywood man who police say was intoxicated died early Friday morning after he drove into a center median on Los Angeles Avenue late Thursday, hit a traffic sign and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Michael Mujadin, 56, was traveling west on Los Angeles Avenue just east of Ralston Avenue at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday when he failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle, Simi Valley Officer Vernon Trujillo said.

The bike skidded onto the opposite side of the road, where Mujadin was thrown almost 30 feet into a dirt field, Trujillo said.

An eyewitness said Mujadin did not appear to be exceeding the 45 mph speed limit, according to police.

Mujadin was taken to Simi Valley Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival, Trujillo said. Hospital tests indicated the man’s blood level was almost three times the legal limit for alcohol, the officer said.

Mujadin was wearing a helmet, Trujillo said, but it was not a style approved for safety standards.
