Elton and Axl

So Elton John isn’t bothered by homophobic lyrics in music (“Crocodile Rock Critic? That’d Be Elton John,” by Robert Hilburn, Aug. 13). The roly-poly one needs a dose of reality. It’s quite telling when he says that Axl Rose (who has written anti-gay songs) “couldn’t have been nicer to me . . . he inducted me into the Hall of Fame” (emphasis added).
Sir Elton isn’t bothered so long as the words are about gays who haven’t been knighted. What was the point of Elton’s coming out then? He seems to not care one iota about vicious and hurtful words written about homosexuals. Elton John is just another self-serving, self-absorbed celebrity in a culture filled to the brim with such as he. What a pity.
