A 19-year-old Sylmar woman who allegedly killed a woman in a hit-and-run traffic accident Friday turned herself in to police Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Michelle Salazar walked into the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys station with her mother and surrendered about 1 p.m., said Sgt. Rod Grahek of the ValleyTraffic Division. Salazar was booked on suspicion of felony hit and run and taken to the Van Nuys Jail where she was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Marina Diaz, 65, of Pacoima was struck by a 1995 Saturn and killed as she crossed Van Nuys Boulevard at Kewen Street in a crosswalk. The busy intersection, known among residents as a dangerous junction, has no traffic light.
