The City Council will likely award its largest service contract at its meeting tonight when it chooses among five companies vying to haul away the city’s trash.
The city received proposals from five companies ranging from $5.8 million to $7.01 million per year for the next eight years.
A subcommittee and an outside consulting firm evaluated the proposals and recommended Waste Management of Orange County. Waste Management is the largest trash hauler in the country and currently holds the city’s contract for commercial waste disposal.
Under Waste Management’s bid, single-family residences in the city will pay $11.95 per month for garbage pick up in the first year. The cost is expected to rise gradually over the life of the contract as disposal costs increase.
The lowest bid for the project came from the Santa Ana-based Ware Disposal Co. Ware’s proposal would cost $5,888,000 with a cost of $11.24 per household per month.
