Machado Wins in France

Rob Machado of Cardiff won the Assn. of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour event in Lacanau, France, by defeating Armando Daltro of Brazil in the final Sunday.

Machado had one scoring wave of 8.50 in the one- to two-foot surf and finished with 20.85 points to Daltro’s 17.00. Machado moved up to No. 6 in the WCT rankings.

Hawaii’s Sunny Garcia remains ranked No. 1 after a fifth-place finish. San Clemente’s Shea Lopez finished third.
