Oregon starting right tackle Al Cotton, who missed four games last season because of head injuries, has quit football after suffering a mild concussion in practice last week. . . . Former Arkansas quarterback Gary Brashears transferred to Tulsa and will sit out a year before he is eligible to play. . . . Coach R.C. Slocum named Mark Farris, a 25-year-old former minor league baseball player, as Texas A&M;’s starting quarterback against Notre Dame on Sept. 2.
