Ballot Challenge to Be Heard Friday

Share

Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long will head to court Friday in an attempt to force Mike Morgan, her opponent in the November election, to rewrite his ballot statement, contending that it contains information that is inappropriate, false or misleading.

At a hearing Wednesday morning, Judge Henry Walsh said that Long’s legal challenge filed Tuesday came without warning to Morgan, and that he should be allowed time to respond to her allegations.

Morgan called the filing “gamesmanship” but said he would be willing to change his statement if the judge so ruled.

Friday will be a busy morning for Walsh, who is expected to make decisions on three ballot statement challenges lodged by backers and opponents of a measure that would transfer $260 million in tobacco settlement money from the county to private hospitals. The sample ballots must be at the printer Sept. 1.
