Dana Point Docks Closed to Swimmers
About 50 yards of the dock area at Dana Point Harbor were closed to swimmers and divers Monday following bacteria readings that were unusually high, authorities said.
“It’s a small harbor, so people are usually allowed to swim off the docks,” said Sgt. Ron Peoples, a spokesman for the Orange County Harbor Patrol.
The closure, announced late Monday afternoon, affected the N Dock and commercial docks on the southeast side of the harbor’s east basin, near the Harbor Patrol building. Both docks are usually used for boat repairs.
The cause of the contamination was unknown, Peoples said. County health department officials were expected to test the water again this morning.
