Residents to Discuss City’s Tree Policy

Share

A neighborhood group’s proposed changes to the city’s tree removal and planting policy will be discussed at a community workshop at City Hall at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Residents in the New Dutch Haven community are concerned that a nearly 2-year-old policy for removing hazardous trees is ambiguous.

City planners slated about 100 mulberry trees for removal and replacement over the next seven years. Officials say they are concerned about costly infrastructure damage from large root systems. Older diseased trees are another problem they would like to address. Residents want a concise definition for what makes a tree hazardous.
