KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: A BRIEF HISTORY

Share

5. ABNER’S HAZE

Playing as the Dallas Texans before the move to K.C., they win an all-Texas showdown for the 1962 AFL championship in overtime, despite halfback Abner Haynes, who not only botches the coin toss, electing to kick off to the Houston Oilers, but chooses to kick into the wind. Three minutes into a second extra period, Haynes is saved by Tommy Brooker’s field goal, 20-17.

4. THE LONGEST DAY

Ed Podolak rolls up 350 all-purpose yards, Chiefs and Dolphins play the longest game in NFL history--82 minutes 40 seconds--before Miami wins this 1971 AFC playoff game in double overtime, 27-24.

3. SUPER BOWL I

Representing the AFL in the first Super Bowl, played in Los Angeles, Chiefs are beaten by Green Bay, 35-10.
