Elleen Marie Wieben, a former bank assistant manager and financial advisor, died Tuesday at her home in Simi Valley after a 13-year battle with cancer. She was 54.

Wieben was born Aug. 24, 1946, in Milwaukee, and was the eldest of seven children. She moved to Simi Valley in 1964.

She was an assistant manager and financial advisor at Security Pacific Bank in Simi Valley for 24 years and later worked for Bank of America, also in Simi Valley.

She supported community-based and international service projects of the Simi Sunrise Rotary Club. She and her husband of 10 years, Doug, traveled extensively, supporting Rotary clubs around California. She received the Paul Harris Fellow award for outstanding achievements from Rotary International.

After her initial bout with cancer in 1988, she became an advocate for cancer survivors and eventually served as president of the Simi Valley unit of the American Cancer Society in 1995 and 1996.

Wieben received numerous awards for her work helping hundreds of survivors deal with the aftermath of cancer--and helping families cope after the loss of a loved one. Her enthusiasm helped motivate volunteers, raise funds and provide courage to friends and family members, relatives said.

In addition to her husband, Wieben is survived by her parents, David and Cecile Boeshaar; three sisters, Carol Boswell, Barbara Veazey and Patricia Young; and three brothers, David Boeshaar, Keith Boeshaar and Sean Boeshaar, all of Simi Valley.

A service in celebration of her life is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Simi Covenant Church, 4680 Alamo St., Simi Valley. Burial services will follow at the Oakwood Memorial Cemetery in Chatsworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 11, Simi Valley, CA 93062; or to the American Cancer Society, 1445 Los Angeles Ave., Suite #207, Simi Valley, CA 93065.
