The driver of the car, who was not identified, slammed on his brakes attempting to avoid the pedestrian and was rear-ended by a second vehicle. The pedestrian was killed instantly, authorities said.

Neither driver was reported injured.

The crash caused the closure of the highway’s westbound lanes for about 30 minutes, but no major backups were reported.

In the other accident, a man driving west on the Ronald Reagan Freeway in Simi Valley lost control of his vehicle shortly after 8 p.m. and slammed into a concrete bridge support at Sycamore Drive, authorities said.
