5 Bruins Send Letters to NFL

Tailback DeShaun Foster joined four UCLA teammates in sending letters to the NFL, asking where they might be drafted should they turn pro, Coach Bob Toledo said Monday.

Foster, selected last week to the all-Pac-10 team, had previously indicated he would return for his senior season. Toledo said five juniors--Foster, receivers Freddie Mitchell and Brian Poli-Dixon, linebacker Robert Thomas and safety Marques Anderson--had sent letters to the NFL. Toledo said he believes Mitchell is the only Bruin junior ready for the NFL. Toledo plans to discuss the pros and cons of turning pro with each player after the Sun Bowl Dec. 29.

UCLA offensive coordinator Al Borges said he is interested in the head coaching position at San Jose State, which opened Sunday when Coach Dave Baldwin did not reach agreement on a new contract. Borges played and coached in nearby Salinas and has family ties in the Bay Area.
