An 18-month-old boy, being pushed in his stroller by his mother, was struck by a bullet fired in an apparent gang shooting Friday in Boyle Heights.

Hit in the back and leg by the bullet, Daniel Gonzalez was listed in critical condition at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where officials said he is expected to survive.

His mother, Cindy Crisostomo, was walking on Olympic Boulevard after leaving a store when two gunshots were fired, Los Angeles Police Det. Rodrigo Amador s said.

Crisostomo had just left the Mi Guadalupana market when witnesses saw a man on foot fire a gun at a brown truck heading east on Olympic Boulevard, Amador said. At least one bullet hit the boy above the left buttock, exiting from his left leg, the detective said.

The gunman was seen fleeing in a black car heading south on La Puerta Street, Amador said.

Gonzalez picked up her crying son and sought to comfort him, patting him on the back, Fields said. Then she noticed blood on her hands.

“It looks like he’s going to survive,” County-USC spokeswoman Adelaida De La Cerda said.
