* LOYOLA MARYMOUNT (2-4) AT SACRAMENTO STATE (2-3), 4, KXLU-FM (88.9)--The Lions ended a 31-game losing streak to Division I opponents Tuesday in beating Cal State Fullerton. They’ll try to break a 23-game road losing streak against the Hornets. Against Fullerton, forward Philipp Czernin had a season-high 17 points. Balance has been the Lions’ theme. Five players average between 9.0 and 13.7 points. Sacramento is coming off an 85-71 loss at Southern Utah. Jerome Jenkins is in his first year as the interim coach after Tom Abatemarco resigned. The game will be played at Arco Arena, the Hornets’ alternate home site.

* LONG BEACH STATE (3-4, 0-0) AT IDAHO (2-4, 0-0), 7--Because of a scheduling quirk, this is the Big West Conference opener for both teams. No other team starts conference play until Jan. 4. With injuries throughout their front line, the 49ers were worn down by a deeper Pepperdine team Wednesday night. They should match up better with the Vandals, a team with only three players taller than 6 feet 7 inches. Idaho, picked last in the conference coaches’ preseason poll, is averaging only 58.7 points, shoots 37% from the field and 62% from the free-throw line.

* UC RIVERSIDE (2-4) AT OREGON STATE (4-2), 7--The Highlanders were impressive in their 89-68 victory over Weber State. In avenging a 23-point loss to the Wildcats in the season opener at Ogden, Utah, sophomore forward Mark Miller had 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting and point guard Trenell Eddings had 10 points and nine of the Highlanders’ 24 assists. Former Inglewood High guard Deaundra Tanner leads the Beavers in scoring (13.5 points) and assists (3.2).
