The Kern Estate has a large yard of level lawns and towering pines, near the longtime estate of Bob and Dolores Hope. The sizable, Old World-style house accommodated a big family for decades.

About this house: Built for Roy Disney in 1934, the house was sold in 1953 to Charles E. Kern, chief executive of Kern Industries and head of his family-owned Kern Foods Inc., which became a major manufacturer during the early ‘50s of tomato products, jams, jellies and fruit drinks. Kern died at 72 in 1991, and his wife of 49 years, Westine, continued to live in the home until her death recently. Her estate is selling the house for the couple’s five grown children.

Asking price: $3,395,000

Size: Six bedrooms, 7.5 baths, including separate staff quarters, in 6,810 square feet.
