Riverside Stuns Oregon State at Corvallis
Vili Morton, Aaron Hands and Mark Miller each scored 11 points as UC Riverside made 11 three-point baskets and held on to defeat Oregon State, 67-63, Saturday night at Corvallis, Ore.
The Highlanders (3-4), playing their first season in Division I, trailed, 49-42, with 8 1/2 minutes to play before going on a 10-0 run.
Oregon State (4-3) tied the score on a three-point basket from Josh Steinthal, but Riverside’s Trenell Eddings countered with a three-point shot as the shot clock ran out to put the Highlanders ahead for good with 4:10 to play. It was Eddings’ only basket in seven shots.
Steinthal led the Beavers with 15 points. Jason Heide and Deaundra Tanner each had 14.
Oregon State got within 55-54 with 2:17 to go, but Eddings made six free throws in a row and Morton added a layup to push the lead to five with just under a minute to play.
Riverside committed 19 turnovers but had a 38-22 advantage in rebounds.
