Pepperdine 62, San Jose State 60--Brandon Armstrong and Kelvin Gibbs each scored 17 points as the Waves survived a furious second-half comeback to edge the Spartans at Malibu.

It was Pepperdine’s 13th consecutive victory at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Mike Garrett led San Jose State (4-3) with 14 points and Cory Powell had 13.

Pepperdine (5-2) jumped to a 9-1 lead and led, 35-29, at halftime.

Glen McGowan made a three-point shot with 7:09 to play to give Pepperdine a 55-39 advantage.

San Jose State rattled off nine consecutive points during the next 3 1/2 minutes to close to 55-48 when Powell made a basket with 4:32 to play.

Pepperdine maintained its lead by converting its foul shots, and a steal and breakaway dunk by Derrick Anderson secured the victory.

Pepperdine forced San Jose State into 17 turnovers. The Waves shot 46.7% from the field and San Jose State made 45% of its shots. The Spartans outrebounded Pepperdine, 33-25.
