Fred Taylor keeps rewriting records as the Jacksonville Jaguars state their case as one of NFL’s better teams.

Too bad they won’t make the playoffs.

Taylor rushed for 137 yards to surpass the 100-yard mark for the eighth consecutive game and lift the Jaguars to their fourth consecutive victory, 44-10 over the Arizona Cardinals.

Their playoff hopes gone, the Jaguars (7-7) are taking pride in the little things, such as scoring on their first seven possessions, and making it to .500 for the first time since September.

The Jaguars also closed their home schedule on a strong note, with two victories by a combined margin of 92-10.

“It’s tough for us to handle it, it’s kind of bittersweet to be playing so good and not have a chance to go to the playoffs,” wide receiver said Jimmy Smith, who had eight catches for 147 yards and a touchdown. “But this is when you want to play your best football, in December, and we’re a good team right now.”

Nobody is playing better than Taylor.

The third-year back left the game midway through the third quarter with 1,237 yards for the season, beating the team record (1,223) he set as a rookie. He took sole possession of the NFL’s fourth-longest streak of 100-yard games.

Arizona (3-11) lost its fifth consecutive game.

Michael Pittman ran 11 times for minus-one yard as Arizona’s running attack produced only 40 yards. Dave Brown started for the injured Jake Plummer and completed 11 of 19 passes for 135 yards before leaving in the third quarter for Chris Greisen.
