Osborne Signs With Patriots

Defensive lineman Chuck Osborne, formerly of Canyon High and Arizona, has signed with the New England Patriots.

Osborne played with the Oakland Raiders in 1999 but was released before this season.

Green Bay signed him, but he was released after one game. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound tackle is in his fourth NFL season.

* Notre Dame and Westlake highs have reached agreement to play the second game of next season at Westlake.

SOCCER

* Portland midfielder Erin Misaki, a sophomore from Hart High, has been selected second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.

Misaki, co-most valuable player in the West Coast Conference, led Portland to the NCAA final four before losing, 1-0, to eventual runner-up UCLA.

* Kim Pickup, who played at Chatsworth High, was a fourth-round draft pick of the San Diego Spirit for the new women’s professional league, WUSA.

* Pepperdine coaches Tim Ward and Kristy Walker will direct a day camp Monday through Wednesday at the university.

Cost is $85 for half-day sessions and $100 for full-day sessions. Proceeds go to Pepperdine soccer.

VOLLEYBALL

* Sherisa Livingston of Wisconsin, a 6-foot-2 junior middle blocker from Royal High, was selected to the All-American team by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn.

Livingston led the Badgers to the NCAA final four with 5.2 kills and 1.4 blocks per game. She was the Big Ten Conference’s co-player of the year.

Setter Brooke Rundle of UC Santa Barbara, a junior from Westlake High, was chosen to the second team.

BASEBALL

* Joe Borchard, formerly of Camarillo High and Stanford, was ranked as the second-best overall prospect and top position player in Baseball America magazine’s survey of the top 10 prospects in the Chicago White Sox organization.

Borchard, 22, was the first college position player drafted in June. The White Sox signed him for a $5.3 million signing bonus, the largest in draft history.

Borchard, 22, batted .310 with two home runs in 103 minor league at-bats last season.

* Barry Matthews, former Crespi outfielder who is a senior at Gonzaga, has been selected to the preseason All-American team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn.

GOLF

* Jason Wilk, a sophomore at Westlake High, shot 80-74--154 to place third in the 13-15 division of a junior tournament Saturday and Sunday at Singing Hills Resort in El Cajon.

* Registration for Sunrise Woodland Hills Little League baseball will be taken from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Sportmart, at 21301 Victory Blvd.
