Woman’s Car Kills Man on L.A. Street
A 93-year-old man pushing a baby carriage filled with empty bottles died early Saturday after he was struck by a car while crossing an East Los Angeles street, authorities said.
Lorenzo Macias was taken to East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital, where he died of his injuries, said Lt. David Smith, of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
Macias, of Montebello, was crossing East Olympic Boulevard from near South Server Avenue about 5:45 a.m. when he was hit by a 1992 Toyota Corolla, said Becky Lynch, a California Highway Patrol officer.
“A 33-year-old woman from Montebello was westbound in the No. 2 lane of Olympic Boulevard traveling at 30 to 40 mph and failed to notice the pedestrian crossing the street and struck him, causing fatal injuries,” Lynch said.
The CHP did not release the motorist’s name; an investigation is underway. Lynch said Macias was apparently collecting the empty bottles to recycle.
