Gunman Sought in Fast-Food Robberies

Like a repeat customer, a gunman keeps coming back for more at a group of fast-food restaurants here.
The eateries--Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits, KFC and Jack in the Box--have collectively been robbed at least 10 times over the past year by the same gunman, police say.
“He feels secure there for whatever reason,” said Det. Bill Caughey of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division. “The employees recognize him when he walks in now.”
The restaurants are clustered in the vicinity of Woodman Avenue and Nordhoff Street, and are usually robbed a few days apart, Caughey said.
The robber has gotten away with at least $2,000 over the past year, Caughey said. The most recent robbery was Nov. 25.
Caughey speculated that the robber may have family members in the area and that he robs the restaurants when he is in the area on a visit.
The man enters the restaurants armed with a small-caliber handgun, or pretending he has one, and demands cash. No one has been hurt in the robberies, Caughey said.
Police have urged anyone with information on the robberies to call (818) 834-3160 or (818) 834-3115.
